This backup can be performed to an external hard drive with the Backup & Restore tool located in the Control Panel on Windows 7 and up. A system image backup is highly recommended before starting this process. Do this upgrade AFTER your system has been cleaned of malware. They have been very generous in continuing to allow users to upgrade from Windows 7 at no charge. If you are still running Windows 7 with a LEGIT license, you can obtain a free upgrade to Windows 10 by using the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant from Microsoft.
